What Our Patients Are Saying
Here’s a glimpse of the experiences shared by parents, reflecting their journey with us.
How Stem Cell Therapy Works for Autism
When autism is diagnosed, it indicates that certain areas of the brain responsible for memory, concentration, attention, emotions, and speech development are not functioning optimally.
The primary aim of stem cell therapy and their exosomes is to promote brain development by stimulating neuron growth and reducing inflammation. This approach offers new opportunities for your child's development and well-being. Here’s how it works:
- Enhances Brain Circulation: They aid in the creation of new blood vessels, improving blood and oxygen supply to the brain.
- Boosts Synaptic Transmission: This speeds up brain reactions by enhancing the communication between brain cells.
- Reduces Inflammation: By producing anti-inflammatory cytokines, they help modulate the immune system, which is crucial since autism often involves immune system challenges.
To explore the detailed research supporting these benefits, you can read the medical studies linked at the bottom of this page.

Our Treatment Program: What to Expect
Through years of experience, we have developed a safe, comprehensive, and patient-centered treatment process, designed to address a child's unique health profile.
-
1
Eligibility Evaluation
Consult with our experts to discuss your child’s unique needs and determine eligibility. Our qualified physicians will conduct a thorough medical evaluation, reviewing medical records, diagnostic tests, and imaging studies to assess overall health and suitability for stem cell therapy. -
2
Treatment Plan Development
Based on the medical evaluation, our doctors will recommend one of our autism treatment programs based on your child’s age, diagnosis, current health, medical history, and individual needs.
Each program follows a clinically tested protocol, with the treatment usually lasting between 3 and 9 days. For safety reasons, doctors determine the dose for every child individually, according to your child’s body weight. -
3
Stem Cell Preparation
We harvest stem cells from a reliable donor source—umbilical cord or placenta—and prepare them in our lab through testing, cultivation, and activation. -
4
Administration
Stem cells and exosomes are given through gentle, minimally invasive procedures, similar to common medical steps such as a blood test or IV drip.
If a child feels very anxious or cannot stay still, the doctor may recommend light sedation to make the procedure calmer and safer. This is decided individually and used only when needed, with continuous medical monitoring. -
5
Additional Support therapy
Speech therapy is included during your child’s stay to support communication and learning. Our therapist assesses your child’s communication needs, adapts exercises individually, and gives parents practical tools to continue support at home.
Ongoing developmental work remains essential after the course. -
6
Follow-Up Care
After the in-clinic program, your child continues supportive care at home to help extend and reinforce the effects of treatment. This may include intranasal MSC-exosome drops for 5 weeks and daily macrophage secretome inhalations for 20 days, according to the protocol.
Our medical team stays in touch after discharge to answer questions, guide the home stage, and help monitor your child’s progress. -
7
Free Final Check-up
We also offer a free follow-up check-up at the clinic within 3–6 months. This visit is optional, but recommended to review changes, discuss your child’s development, and adjust further support if needed. Accommodation and meals are included during the follow-up visit — you only need to cover your travel tickets.

You can start here for general information, but we recommend scheduling a private, no-obligation online consultation with our medical advisors. They can address your specific concerns and provide a full assessment of your case.
Have additional questions? Click the link below to view our complete FAQ section.
Our FAQ section1. Can stem cell therapy provide a cure?
Stem cell therapy is not a complete cure for autism. Anyone suggesting that stem cells can entirely cure autism is likely not providing accurate information.
Considering that the specific causes of ASD are not fully understood, the aim of the therapy is to relieve symptoms and help a child develop essential skills. While MSCs can have beneficial effects, such as reducing inflammation and modulating immune responses, claims of a complete cure should be viewed with skepticism.
2. What type of cells do we use?
At Swiss Medica, we use donor mesenchymal stem cells derived from umbilical cord tissue. They are ethically sourced after healthy births, without the use of embryonic cells.
Umbilical cord-derived MSCs are generally well tolerated and have a lower risk of immune rejection. Their anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating properties may help support children with autism, where neuroinflammation can play a role.
3. Is stem cell therapy safe?
Your child’s safety and well-being come first at Swiss Medica.
MSC therapy has been widely studied for safety, and we share the latest research at the end of this page. Each child receives an individually calculated dose based on their needs and body weight.
Our MSCs come from umbilical cords and placentas donated after healthy births. They are collected in sterile conditions from carefully screened donors and tested for bacterial, fungal, and viral contamination, as well as genetic stability and cell viability.
4. Is the procedure painful?
The stem cell transplantation procedure for children is designed to be as gentle and comfortable as possible. Stem cells are typically administered through intravenous infusions, which are generally well-tolerated.
Some children might experience mild discomfort at the injection site, similar to what one might feel after a routine vaccination. This discomfort is usually brief and resolves quickly. We are committed to making the experience as smooth and minimally uncomfortable as possible for your child.
5. My child is afraid of doctors and needles. What can we do?
Our doctors have many years of experience working with children, including those who may feel anxious in medical settings. The procedure is carried out calmly, in the presence of a parent, and feels similar to routine clinic procedures such as blood sampling or an IV drip.
The medical team monitors your child’s condition throughout the procedure and can adjust the pace or provide additional support if your child feels nervous.
6. Can my child have allergic reactions?
After the introduction of cells, a skin rash may occur, which can be regarded as an allergic reaction in some cases. We monitor each child closely to ensure their safety throughout the therapy.
7. Are there any side effects?
Stem cell therapy does not have any long-term side effects.
Most children tolerate therapy well. Potential reactions are generally mild and may include fever, headache, chills, a rash, or localized swelling and redness at the injection site. Occasionally, there may be increased activity following the therapy. These effects are typically temporary and can often be managed with pain relief or rest, resolving within a short time.
8. What are the age requirements for treatment?
Our ASD treatment program is generally available for children aged 3 and older. Children between 3 and 7 years old—and in some cases up to 10—often respond best to therapy.
For children under 3, exosome-only programs may be considered and are discussed individually with the doctor.
9. When will we see the results?
Results are individual and usually develop gradually. First changes may appear within 1.5–3 months, sometimes earlier, such as calmer mood or better sleep.
The strongest effect is often seen within 3–6 months, with progress possible for up to 12 months. Stem cell therapy works as a supportive treatment alongside traditional developmental therapies and may create a window of opportunity for faster learning. During this period, it is especially important to continue speech therapy, occupational therapy, behavioral therapy, and home-based exercises.
10. Are there any contraindications?
Possible contraindications include active oncology, acute infections, mental disorders, and individual characteristics such as age or body weight. However, doctors evaluate the medical history and individual suitability to decide on the therapy's safety and efficacy for each patient.
